Comic-Con is Coming! We Preview the Biggest Announcements: Part Two

Comic-Con is Coming! We Preview the Biggest Announcements - Part 2Last week, we outlined the Thursday and Friday schedules for San Diego Comic-Con’s enormous Hall H conference room, which is due to include star-studded presentations from Disney, Sony, and more. If you missed it, make sure to check it out here. Once your all caught up, read on for Saturday and Sunday, where the stakes are definitely raised.

Saturday starts off huge with director Quentin Tarantino and a preview of Django Unchained, with members of the cast (presumably Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz, but maybe Leo DiCaprio too) on hand for a Q&A. Then we’re treated to another videogame-inspired sequel, Silent Hill: Revelations, an oddly-timed 3D sequel to the 2006 original.

It’s at this point in the show that our brain begins to melt, as Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures (aka the folks that made the newest Batman trilogy) finally show off the biggest and most well-guarded movies of the convention. Pacific Rim finds Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro channeling Japanese animation with giant robot vs. monster battles, Man of Steel attempts to breathe new life into the Superman franchise, and The Hobbit is THE HOBBIT, one final visit to the beloved multi-billion-dollar Lord of the Rings franchise. If that weren’t enough, it’s rumored that Legendary will reveal a look at their upcoming Godzilla reboot, because one giant monster movie just isn’t enough for a single panel. Just which talent will be on hand is still unannounced, but anything less than a whole bunch of big stars from each of these tentpole pictures would be a surprise.

The final film slotted for Hall H for the day, and the convention, will be Iron Man 3, as Disney takes the stage again in the form of newly-purchased subsidiary Marvel Studios. Coming off of the incredible success of The Avengers, Marvel will have a lot to live up to as they expand upon their universe of comic book films. Though Iron Man 3 is the only official topic set for discussion, it’d be shocking if more movies (Thor 2? Captain America 2? Ant-Man?) weren’t teased as well. And scheduled after the first ever look at a new Superman movie from rival DC Comics, we don’t expect Marvel to take this opportunity lightly.

Sunday, the last day of Comic-Con 2012, has a TV-filled schedule to wind things down small screen-style. Fringe, Supernatural, Doctor Who, The Cleveland Show, and Sons of Anarchy will all hold court in Hall H for Q&As with their casts and creators. Fringes panel should be bittersweet, as it marks the final season for the fan-favorite show. Doctor Who, on the other hand, is a show that never seems to end, and is just hitting its stride with American audiences. And The Cleveland Show panel should be an especially lively event, as it will include Seth MacFarlane, fresh off of the surprisingly successful Ted, a talking teddy bear movie that recently made $54 million in a single weekend.
